Was Jack the Ripper a Freemason?
The answer may surprise you!
Several theorists and at least one recent movie have speculated that Jack the Ripper was able to get away with the murders because of his Masonic ties.
Join us at lodge November 1st, 2016 and (time permitting) listen to an audio clip from the Podcast “The Tyler’s Place” and hear from a Jack the Ripper investigator who believes he has identified Jack the Ripper, and his opinion on if Jack was a Freemason

Orland Laurel 245 honors Olga Peterson
On Friday, April 27th, in celebration of California Public Schools Month, Orland Laurel #245 honored local school volunteer Olga Peterson (pictured left, with Lodge Master Larry Donnelley) for her dedication to the success of the "Orland High School Community Connection" program.
The program was the brainchild of the recently-retired Peterson, who envisioned a way for local high school seniors to learn about the community and interact with the workers of local non-profit organizations as a way to better themselves and their home town. The program is now a graduation requirement, with students required to pick a program, volunteer 16 hours, write a report about the experience, and finally give (and pass) a judged presentation. The program has grown into a popular and important part of the graduating students senior experience. To date, students have volunteered over 3000 hours of service to local non-profit organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Humane Society, and the Senior Nutrition Center.
The award presentation began with Peterson discussing the history of the OHS Community Connection program, then introduced four Orland High School Seniors, who gave their presentations to the audience attending the function at the Orland Masonic Lodge. In attendance were friends, family, teachers, business owners, and lodge members.
Student presenters included:
Aurelia Pompa, who lead a group who volunteered time to help the Orland Historical Society, the fairgrounds, the Orland Free Library, Just For Children, and the Alumni Association.
Ashley Schumann, Orland High Schools first female varsity wrestler, who started an after-school wrestling program for young children and had fundraisers to purchase the children wrestling singlets, headgear, and and warmup suits.
Fernando Infante and Luis Hernandez teamed up for the final presentation on their volunteer time (35 hours and 25 hours respectfully) at the Senior Nutrition
Center, where the assisted senior citizens with exercises, cleaning, and assisting with many duties around the building such as landscaping and washing dished. It's clear they had a passion for their time with the senior citizens, and grew into better men for it.
The night ended with Lodge Master Larry Donnelley presenting Olga Peterson a certificate from the Lodge, and thanking her for her vision, enthusiasm, and drive to make the OHS Community Connection the success it is. The four student presenters will also receive certificates from the lodge, thanking them for their hark work and success in the program.
Refreshments, including cake, cookies, and brownies followed the presentation.

For the Galloping Gavel to be transferred, several lodge officers must attend a meeting at another lodge. The proper rules are being re-worked and will be announced soon. Be looking for the massive gavel when you visit another lodge.
